Haulout Day 8. The end is in sight (1.5 days of work left) and we're exhausted. The boat is a complete mess and we've done 8 days of near non-stop work with breaks only for food and rest when our brains don't work anymore. Yard work is tough physically and mentally.

New cutless bearing is in. That was super difficult. Kind of a cruel joke that the manufacturer says you can freeze it for 2 hours and hand press it in. That doesn't work at all (chilled it for 24 hours). Had to use a big bearing press tool with all our strength on the wrench.

Day 5 - 1st Painting Day (coat 1 of 2). Rain is coming so we're taking this sunny opportunity to get two painting days in. Natalie our master painter has been doing excellent work on this exhausting job.

Boatyard work is tough, dirty work. And there's been some sweat, blood and tears. But at least there's sometimes a view of whales when we walk to the bathroom. First boatyard where that's ever happened. (note: didn't get a photo of them, sorry)

Haul-out Day 2: Tough day. Made some progress but also a very disappointing discovery that will add an extra week (and $$$) to living on the hard. Our shaft log / stern tube turned out to be brass (which doesn't survive long in saltwater) and is chipping / compromised. The shaft log is a critical structural element since it encases the prop shaft, the shaft seal gets attached to it, and it's part of keeping the water out of the boat rather than in it.

Hauled out today on the biggest travel-lift we've ever been on! Hoonah has a 220 ton lift, capable of lifting boats much much larger than ours.

The weather has been amazing lately - summer-like sun and warmth. Best 2nd half of April we've had in AK.

Fully provisioned and departed Juneau today for 4+ months! (We may return briefly at some point this summer, but don't have to - hence the 2 Costco cart loads).

Can't complain being stuck in the marina for a week when I've got views like this! (Natalie had to go on a work trip)
